A horrifying incident in Odisha’s Puri district has raised alarming questions about the dangerous obsession with social media fame. A 15-year-old boy, identified as Bishwajit Sahu from Mangalaghat, lost his life after being hit by a speeding train while filming a reel near the Janakadeipur Railway Station.
How the Tragic Incident Unfolded
According to reports, Bishwajit and his friends had visited Birgabindapur village in Sakhigopal for temple visits. On their way back, they stopped near Janakadeipur railway track to shoot short videos for social media. While Bishwajit stood dangerously close to the tracks, a train approached rapidly from behind. Before anyone could react, the train hit him, throwing him off balance and onto the ground.
Captured on Camera: The Final Moments
The chilling footage, now circulating on social media, shows the boy focusing on his phone camera while a speeding train approaches unseen from behind. Moments later, the train strikes him, and he collapses beside the track. His panicked friend can be seen rushing to his aid, but Bishwajit showed no signs of movement.
Locals quickly gathered at the scene and rushed him to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Government Railway Police (GRP) reached the spot, seized the body for postmortem, and have initiated an investigation into the incident.
A Dangerous Trend: The Cost of Viral Fame
This tragic case underscores the growing menace of social media addiction among youth. The quest for likes, followers, and viral fame has pushed teenagers to take life-threatening risks for a few seconds of online attention. Authorities and parents are urging young people to understand that no amount of online popularity is worth endangering one’s life.
