Anupama, one of the most-watched Hindi TV shows, continues to make headlines sometimes for its plot twists and other times for its off-screen drama. Recently, the exit of actress Alisha Parveen stirred conversations. Cast as Anupama’s adopted daughter Rahi, her journey in the show turned out to be brief. While Alisha described her removal as sudden, producer Rajan Shahi came forward to address what truly happened.
In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Rajan Shahi opened up about the situation. He revealed that despite efforts from their end, the expected energy never quite surfaced. The creative team and directors expressed growing concerns. They felt the essential spark was missing. Rajan mentioned he kept receiving feedback from his team that there was no noticeable ‘x-factor’ in her performances. It wasn’t a decision made overnight, nor without attempts to guide and support her.
Recalling one of Alisha’s performances, Rajan described it as full of energy and emotional accuracy. However, maintaining that standard proved difficult. The team arranged multiple meetings, hoping for improvement. The channel too monitored the situation closely, and their disappointment gradually grew. Rajan stated it was a collective observation that performances weren’t consistently meeting expectations.
A month before the official decision, Rajan met Alisha at an award function. There, he informed her about the growing concerns from the directors. He mentioned during the interview that the conversation wasn’t a one-off. According to him, Alisha was made aware of the dissatisfaction long before her exit. The claim of an abrupt dismissal, Rajan insisted, was far from the truth.
Post her removal, Alisha reportedly made allegations about someone being responsible for her departure. Rajan addressed these claims, stating that after her exit, several accusations were thrown around. But his production house chose not to engage in that narrative. Their focus remained on moving forward and ensuring the show’s quality didn’t waver. He pointed out that the production team couldn’t see consistent extra effort from her side to improve, even after being told what was lacking.
Dismissing the accusations entirely, Rajan expressed that when a production house invests time in workshops, training, and grooming an actor, it’s done with the intention of having them on board for a long journey. He questioned why anyone would invest so much time if the actor wasn’t considered valuable. The decision to part ways was made when it became clear that the required transformation wasn’t happening.
He concluded by sharing that taking this step was essential at that point. For the show’s progress and the audience’s experience, such decisions, though tough, become necessary. He stated, “Hum apni taraf se poori effort karenge.”
This chapter adds to the list of actors exiting Anupama for varied reasons. While the show continues to maintain its top position on the charts, the off-screen drama seems just as intense as the onscreen storylines. As new faces arrive and others leave, Anupama’s journey remains eventful both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
