The buzz around The Great Indian Kapil Show just got louder with the announcement of Navjot Singh Sidhu’s long-awaited return. Netflix recently confirmed that Sidhu would be back on the show as its permanent guest after nearly six years. This marks a significant moment not only for the show’s followers but also for the man himself, who once played a key role in shaping its early days.

In a fresh vlog on his YouTube channel, Sidhu opened up about his connection with Kapil Sharma and how he helped him get his own show more than a decade ago. Taking his viewers back to where it all began, Sidhu recalled his time judging The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, a show that introduced the country to talents like Kapil Sharma and Bharti Singh. According to him, it was here that Kapil found his footing in the comedy world.

Sidhu shared that while Kapil rose to fame through the show, he felt the comedian lacked his own identity while performing in Comedy Circus. He believed Kapil was being overshadowed and needed a platform of his own. After Sidhu’s Bigg Boss stint, he said Kapil approached him with a heartfelt request. “Paaji, I have a request. If you will agree to be part of my show, they will give me an independent show,” Kapil reportedly told him.

The conversation moved forward when Sidhu asked who could make such a promise. Kapil mentioned Raj Nayak, the then head of Colors TV. Sidhu recounted how they met over breakfast, where Raj Nayak proposed the idea of Sidhu joining as a judge to strengthen the show’s TRP. Sidhu readily agreed and described how he went a step further by actively contributing ideas to shape the format of Kapil’s independent venture.

Sidhu didn’t shy away from taking credit for some pivotal suggestions. He revealed how he advised Kapil to bring Dharmendra as the first celebrity guest, even though initially, there were no plans for celebrity appearances. When Dharmendra graced the show and shared personal stories, it caused the TRPs to soar. Sidhu believed these choices set the tone for what would become one of television’s most loved comedy shows.

He also addressed the circumstances that led to his exit from the show. Sidhu had to step away due to political responsibilities. Ever since, he mentioned, fans kept asking for his return. Sidhu expressed how the love and support from the audience brought things full circle for him. “Now, that I am returning to the show it is like a home run for me. Ghar wapsi,” he said.

In the same vlog, Sidhu cleared the air regarding Archana Puran Singh, who had replaced him as the show’s judge after his controversial remarks in 2019 about the Pulwama attack. Many speculated whether his comeback would affect her position. Sidhu shared that he personally requested Netflix to retain Archana alongside him. “When it came to Archana Puran Singh, I just said one thing, ‘I am a devotee of Goddess Durga, how can I be the reason for her losing her job?’” Sidhu explained.

According to him, Netflix agreed, and both will now appear together on the new season, joined by familiar faces like Sunil Grover and Krushna Abhishek. Sidhu warmly described them as being part of the same engine, all working towards the same goal.

The official announcement came just two days ago when Netflix posted a video on Instagram featuring Kapil Sharma, Archana Puran Singh, and Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Fans were quick to react, flooding the post with excitement and welcoming Sidhu back. The new season is set to premiere on June 21, and for many, it feels like a familiar chapter reopening with new energy.
