Sana Makbul, the well-known television actor and Bigg Boss OTT 3 winner, recently left her fans concerned after a photo of her from a hospital bed surfaced online. The picture, shared by a close friend, offered no explanation at the time, leaving everyone anxious. Now, Sana has come forward to reveal the reason behind her hospitalisation. The 32-year-old actress confirmed that she has been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis after silently battling autoimmune hepatitis for a long time.
In a candid conversation with Hindustan Times, Sana opened up about her health crisis. She admitted that she had been living with autoimmune hepatitis for quite some time, but things took a serious turn recently. Her immune system began attacking her liver more aggressively, worsening her condition. “But, I’m trying to stay strong and taking one day at a time,” she shared.
The actress has now begun immunotherapy as part of her treatment plan. It hasn’t been easy for her, and she admitted that the process is exhausting, both physically and mentally. Doctors are working hard to manage her condition and avoid the need for a liver transplant. Sana confessed that some days are tougher than others, but she’s holding on to hope and determination. She said she isn’t ready to give up easily and wants to recover without undergoing something as serious as a liver transplant.
Though the condition has deeply impacted her physical health, it didn’t happen suddenly. Sana explained that this wasn’t something that appeared overnight. She had been managing her health for a while, but a severe flare-up recently forced her to step back from work commitments.
It wasn’t an easy decision for her to pause her professional life, especially after putting in years of hard work to find stability in her career. Sana admitted it broke her heart to halt projects when everything was finally coming together. Yet, she said she’s still moving, even if a little slower than before, and that’s what matters most right now.
Beyond the physical struggle, Sana shared how the illness has taken a toll on her emotionally and mentally. She spoke about the pressure of being the one to keep going, not just for herself but also financially and otherwise. It hasn’t been easy to face each day with a smile when the future feels uncertain. Still, she keeps reminding herself that this is just a difficult phase she’ll overcome.
The emotional weight of her illness hasn’t just affected her but also her family. Sana revealed how her loved ones have become her strength. She shared that sometimes it seems even harder for them to watch her suffer than for her to endure it. Her mother may not speak much, but Sana finds strength in her silent presence. Her father, on the other hand, tries to wear a brave face even when she knows he’s deeply worried.
Sana firmly believes that true healing involves more than just medicine. For her, it’s also about feeling loved and supported during the hardest moments. She expressed gratitude towards her family for standing by her side and never letting her feel alone, no matter how bad things got. The actress ended on a hopeful note, stating, “Life is not the same anymore, but I want to live fully; I’ll come out of this stronger, and that I am pretty sure of, as I am a fighter.”
