The actress expressed genuine pride in seeing a leader break social taboos. She highlighted how this initiative reached beyond symbolism, bringing affordable sanitary pads to women in India’s villages and small towns. Rupali felt this step would directly benefit young girls who often leave school due to lack of menstrual hygiene awareness. “And sanitary pads, affordable sanitary pads reaching every woman, that was a matter of great pride for me,” she said, underlining how significant this was for her personally.
She reflected on the harsh truths faced by young girls in rural India. Many, she pointed out, either drop out of school or suffer in silence due to inadequate knowledge about menstrual hygiene. Some are too embarrassed to talk about it, while others struggle with the lack of resources. Rupali stressed that educating children about menstrual health in schools was a huge step forward. She believed it would empower young girls, giving them the confidence to continue their education and lead healthier lives.
Not content with just speaking about it, Rupali actively took to social media to amplify the message. She shared a video on X, formerly Twitter, lauding the government’s menstrual health initiative. In her post, she revealed how the government had introduced the Suvidha brand under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). The brand offers biodegradable sanitary pads at just ₹1 per piece, making it accessible to women from all backgrounds. Rupali’s post further informed that over 77 crore sanitary pads had been distributed through Jan Aushadhi Kendras. By 2020 alone, more than 5 crore pads had been supplied in a short span, marking a considerable achievement for the program.
