Popular television actor Ram Kapoor has found himself at the center of controversy just days ahead of the premiere of his new mystery dramedy, Mistry. He headlines the show alongside Mona Singh, and the duo was actively promoting the series in Mumbai through multiple media engagements. But it turned into a nightmare after disturbing allegations emerged.

The trouble began on June 19, Thursday, at a media meet held at JW Marriott in Juhu. According to firsthand accounts from journalists and members of the promotional team at JioHotstar, Kapoor’s remarks during interviews crossed the line. Those present described a disconcerting experience, with repeated sexual innuendoes that made many uncomfortable.

Midday reported that Kapoor reportedly used the word “gang-raped” to describe the stress of back-to-back interviews. The disturbing comment was allegedly made just as a journalist was preparing her microphone. A JioHotstar source revealed that additional remarks were made later that day, such as inappropriate comments about a female colleague’s attire, claiming, “The clothes are distracting.”

The alleged string of comments did not stop there. A male team member recalled Kapoor suggesting his mother should have pretended to have a headache, so he would never have been born. He also reportedly made references to sex positions. Team members said they initially dismissed the comments as jokes, but later realized how offensive they were when they reflected on the full scope of his behavior.

The following morning, concerns reached JioHotstar’s senior leaders and HR division. Multiple witnesses from the company and PR staff corroborated the stories. An internal investigation was initiated and unearthed a pattern of comments that clearly violated workplace boundaries. After careful review, the platform took action. Kapoor was immediately removed from all promotional events tied to Mistry.

JioHotstar issued a statement emphasizing the importance of maintaining workplace respect. The message said the company “prioritizes dignity and safety” and has no tolerance for conduct that disrespects professional boundaries. The statement affirmed that such behavior undermines the trust and comfort of everyone involved.

As of today, Kapoor has not publicly addressed the controversy. Mistry is scheduled to release on June 27. It features Kapoor as former investigator Armaan Mistry, a brilliant mind who solves complex cases but battles severe OCD. Mona Singh stars alongside him, creating anticipation for what promises to be a compelling performance.

The incident has reignited discussion about professional conduct in the entertainment industry. On-set and promotional professionalism have come under the spotlight as an increasing number of individuals share their experiences of boundary-crossing behavior. Moving forward, companies are under pressure to create safer, more respectful environments for all employees and collaborators.
