Rahul Vaidya, known for his powerful voice and lively personality, has often grabbed headlines for reasons beyond his music. This time, it wasn’t a new track or reality show appearance but a social media misunderstanding involving none other than cricket icon Virat Kohli. What began as a harmless observation quickly snowballed into an unexpected controversy.

The singer recently sat down with Instant Bollywood to clear the air about everything that unfolded. It all started when Rahul couldn’t find Virat’s Instagram profile. Assuming he had been blocked, he voiced his confusion. “I couldn’t see Virat Kohli’s profile on Instagram. I don’t know whether he blocked me or what the actual reason was,” he recalled.

The situation escalated when Rahul reacted to a particular incident where Kohli had explained liking an influencer’s post by calling it an ‘Instagram glitch’. Rahul found that explanation amusing. In his words, “How can it be a glitch? That’s so funny. Just admit you ‘liked’ it accidentally, that’s okay.”

Trying to keep things light, Rahul quipped about his own predicament. “I said just like that’s an Instagram glitch, me getting blocked is also a glitch. Maybe he’s not done it. I’ve said it in a funny way, not angrily,” he shared. But humor on social media can sometimes take a wrong turn. Soon, the singer found himself at the receiving end of online abuse, with comments targeting not just him but his family too. Understandably hurt, he fired back with a remark that further ignited the situation. “So I wrote, ‘Virat Kohli’s fans are even bigger jokers than him.’”

Rahul clarified the reason behind the “joker” tag, explaining it wasn’t meant as an insult. “Because somewhere, I was referring to his comment that ‘liking’ a post was an Instagram glitch. And joker is not a bad word. I just found his explanation funny. I didn’t abuse anyone,” he said. Unfortunately, social media isn’t always a forgiving place. The remark spread rapidly, drawing both criticism and curiosity.

Days later, an unexpected twist unfolded. While travelling, Rahul suddenly noticed Virat’s profile suggested to him on Instagram. After believing it had vanished for so long, seeing it reappear left him puzzled. “Maybe he never blocked me. It was a misunderstanding,” Rahul admitted. He reasoned that if someone’s profile disappears, assuming a block is natural. “I kept thinking then if I have ever said or DMed anything negative about Virat Kohli. Never! I’d always appreciate him.”

The singer revealed that Virat’s brother, Vikas Kohli, had earlier advised him to stick to his music. Rahul took no offense, as Vikas had once complimented his singing in London. “But he’s the same Vikas Kohli who met me outside Oval Stadium and heaped praises on my singing,” Rahul mentioned, remembering the encounter fondly.

Now that the storm has settled, Rahul feels the entire incident was blown out of proportion. “It’s just a minor thing which has blown out of proportion. But I guess that’s what people enjoy,” he stated. He even expressed his intention to message Kohli directly and apologize. “If you’re fond of someone, you can just say, ‘I regret the whole thing.’”

In Rahul’s eyes, the chapter is closed. The misunderstandings, miscommunications, and digital drama are part of celebrity life. Perhaps somewhere, as Rahul hoped, Virat himself is laughing about it now.
