Dipika Kakar, known for her role in Sasural Simar Ka, recently went through one of the toughest phases of her life. A few days ago, her husband Shoaib Ibrahim revealed that Dipika had been diagnosed with a tumour the size of a tennis ball lodged in her liver. What followed was a harrowing 14-hour surgery that tested the strength of the entire family.
The news of her illness shook fans and well-wishers alike. It wasn’t long before the couple confirmed that Dipika was battling stage 2 cancer. This revelation came as a shock to many who had followed her journey. On June 3, Dipika was admitted to the hospital for a critical surgery meant to remove the tumour.
In his latest vlog, Shoaib Ibrahim shared a detailed update about Dipika’s health. He informed viewers that the actress was now out of the ICU after spending three days there. The relief was evident in Shoaib’s voice as he shared that Dipika had finally been moved to a private room and had even started walking a little.
Recalling the day of the surgery, Shoaib admitted it was a long and anxious wait for the family. He said, “We all were tensed as doctors had mentioned it would be a long surgery. She was taken in at 8:30 am and she came out of the OT at 11:30 pm. I then met her when they shifted her to the ICU.” He further revealed that panic set in around 6-7 pm when no updates came from the operation theatre. The silence only made the family’s fears grow, but Shoaib explained how the doctor had assured them earlier that if no one came out with updates, it meant the surgery was proceeding smoothly.
In the same vlog, Shoaib shared that the doctors discovered gallbladder stones during the operation. As a result, Dipika’s gallbladder had to be removed as well. The tumour turned out to be cancerous, and a small part of her liver was cut to ensure the cancer was removed. Shoaib explained that since the liver has regenerative abilities, the doctors assured them that it would heal gradually with time.
He also expressed how difficult those hours were, waiting outside the OT, clinging to hope. He revealed that the surgery was so complicated it left everyone in the family drained. Still, the good news was that Dipika had made it through and had started responding well.
Shoaib thanked everyone who prayed for Dipika’s recovery. He added that messages, calls, and wishes poured in from fans, industry colleagues, and loved ones. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who stood by them during this trying time.
The video also showed glimpses of Dipika resting in her room. Though weak, she managed to smile for the camera and waved at her fans. Shoaib mentioned that Dipika would need time to regain her strength, but her fighting spirit had already begun to show.
The couple, who have often shared personal milestones with their followers, chose to be transparent about this difficult chapter too. The bravery in speaking about Dipika’s cancer battle publicly drew immense support.
The family remains hopeful, and as Shoaib said, the toughest part might be over.
