Barun Sobti’s journey in the entertainment world has always fascinated his fans. Known for his charming screen presence and memorable roles, the actor became a household name with the hit show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. Starring opposite Sanaya Irani, this show changed his career forever. But before becoming the star audiences adored, Barun had a rather unexpected beginning in the industry and it involves none other than actor Karan Wahi.
In a recent conversation, Barun revealed the interesting story behind landing his very first acting job. Few people know that before Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, he made his debut with a show called Shraddha in 2009. And this opportunity came to him not through auditions alone, but thanks to a friendly recommendation.
Recalling those early days, Barun shared, “Pehla break, mera ek friend hai Karan Wahi. Voh mere se ek saal chota hai. Mere school se.” Karan and Barun went to the same school, with Karan being a year younger. Both shared a bond from those school days, which later played a crucial role in Barun’s career.
According to Barun, Karan was initially approached to play the role in Shraddha. However, things took a turn because the makers found Karan’s fee too high for the show’s budget. Barun narrated how the creative head of the show, Mukti, who happened to be like family to him, intervened. He revealed, “The creative Mukti, who used to tie Rakhi to me. She told Karan, ‘We can’t afford you. Tera jaisa koi sasta wala hai toh le aa.'”
At that point, Karan reached out to Barun and told him about the opportunity. Barun explained that Karan was very supportive and encouraged him to audition. He remembered Karan’s words, “Aisa show hai, audition karle.” It was Karan’s push that prompted him to give acting a shot. Barun added that Karan would often tell him that he should visit the sets more often.
Trusting his friend’s advice, Barun went for the audition and bagged the role. That marked the start of a journey that has now spanned television and digital platforms, earning him a loyal fan base.
Barun didn’t stop at just sharing the story of his debut. He also spoke warmly about his bond with Karan Wahi, praising his spirit and work ethic. “Karan mere se ek saal chota hai. Baccha hai mera,” Barun fondly said. He went on to mention that Karan shares a strong friendship with his wife as well, making him an important part of Barun’s personal life too.
Barun was quick to appreciate Karan’s fighting spirit. According to him, “Karan is ladne wala. He will fight. He will work. He will just keep working. I love him,” Barun concluded, his admiration for Karan evident in every word.
Since that first break, Barun Sobti’s journey has only moved upward. After impressing audiences on television, he transitioned smoothly into the digital world. His performances in web series have received critical acclaim and further expanded his fan following.
