Archana Puran Singh has been a familiar face on Indian television for years. From comedy shows to judging panels, her infectious laugh has made her unforgettable.
Even though Archana has tried new things, her bond with Kapil Sharma remains a big part of her image. The two have worked together for several years. Their on-stage comfort and friendly banter have entertained millions. One recurring joke on Kapil’s show often highlights Archana being paid just to laugh. It’s a gag Kapil returns to often, and the audience never seems to tire of it.
This running joke has found its way into Archana’s personal life too. In a recent chat with SCREEN, Archana opened up about how this joke has taken on a life of its own. She mentioned that even her sons tease her about it in her vlogs. She laughed it off, saying it’s all in good humor.
Reacting to the joke, Archana shared that people sometimes take Kapil’s remarks seriously. She clarified that she doesn’t. “Now it’s become a joke. Kapil makes jokes about everything, people take it seriously. I don’t because I know the name of the game is make a punch, get a laugh out of it, and move on,” she said.
She reflected on her early days as a comedy show judge. Back then, her job was to critique performances and share opinions. Times have changed. On Kapil’s show, she admits her role is less defined. She humorously added that even she’s not sure what she’s meant to do now. It’s mostly about being present, reacting to the humor, and enjoying the moment. She explained that in a way, she is paid to enjoy herself, and because her laugh is loud and spontaneous, it seems like she’s paid to laugh.
Archana pointed out that the running gag has become so popular that even her children have picked it up. They often poke fun at her in her vlogs using the same punchline. She finds it amusing and doesn’t mind being the target of good-natured jokes. In fact, she said that people will notice in her videos that she laughs freely even when no one is paying her to do so. She views it as part of the fun and goes along with the joke.
As for her upcoming projects, Archana has an exciting line-up. She will be seen in Rajkummar Rao’s debut production, Toaster, which will stream on Netflix. The film marks an important collaboration for her, and fans are eager to see her in a new avatar. Additionally, she will continue to appear in The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3, keeping her long-standing association with Kapil’s comedy universe alive.
