The popular television serial Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, has won hearts across the country. But on what seemed like a routine morning, tragedy struck the sets of Anupamaa at Film City, Mumbai. A massive fire broke out early in the day, causing panic among workers and staff members. The mishap raised serious concerns about on-set safety protocols in the television industry.

All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta strongly condemned the incident. In a conversation with Zoom TV, he voiced sharp criticism towards the show’s makers, the Film City management, and Mumbai’s labour authorities. Gupta alleged that safety checks were often ignored on film sets, calling out the officials for negligence. According to him, workers informed him about the fire around 5 am, even though the shoot was scheduled to begin at 7 am. He accused the authorities of deliberately delaying access to the site to suppress news of the accident.

Gupta didn’t hold back as he remarked, “Yeh saare producers, channel, Film City ka managing director aur Mumbai ke labour commissioner sabki mili bhagat hai.” He claimed that no proper fire safety inspections are ever carried out on sets. He expressed disappointment that such a dangerous fire occurred during monsoon, a time when extra precautions should have been taken.

He further alleged that incidents like these were common inside Film City but were often brushed aside without formal investigations. Gupta appealed to Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to personally look into the matter. He suggested that inquiries should be made to confirm if any lives were lost in the accident, fearing such details are frequently concealed. He insisted fire audits must be conducted regularly to prevent future tragedies.

In response to the alarming incident, the production team of Anupamaa, led by producer Rajan Shahi, released an official statement. They confirmed the occurrence of a fire on set but reassured everyone that no harm came to the crew. The statement read, “This is to inform everyone about an unfortunate incident that took place early this morning on the sets of Anupamaa. A fire broke out, but by God’s grace, there were no casualties.”

The team clarified that there was no shoot scheduled for Sunday, and Monday’s call time was set for later hours. At the time of the fire, only security guards and a few set staff were present. Thankfully, no one was injured. The statement also mentioned that no animals on set were harmed and their safety was ensured.

As per the production house, the exact reason for the fire is still unknown. The fire department and other officials are currently investigating the cause. The statement explained that the main power supply had been turned off, and no equipment was operating when the fire broke out.

The team addressed false information being spread about the incident. They wrote, “It has also come to our notice that some gossip mongers are attempting to spread false news and misleading information.” They requested fans and media to refrain from believing in rumours and wait for official updates.

The production house extended gratitude towards industry bodies, colleagues, and well-wishers for their concern and support. They mentioned the team remains united and committed to overcoming the setback. As investigations continue, the incident has reignited conversations around safety negligence in Mumbai’s Film City, with many hoping this leads to stricter enforcement of safety norms on sets.
