Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi, known for his grounded persona and unmatched versatility, is ready to mesmerize audiences once again with his upcoming Tamil film Ace. In an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, the actor shared insights on his new movie, his creative process, and the reason behind his relentless pursuit of stardom.
“I want stardom. I work only to be a star,” said Vijay with complete honesty, sitting down for the interview after patiently taking selfies with fans. “The least I can do for my fans is take a selfie. What else am I going to do for them in life?”
‘Ace’ – A Fusion of Love, Crime & Action
Ace, releasing on May 23, is a crime-action-love story directed by Arumuga Kumar, who had earlier collaborated with Vijay on Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren (2018). This marks their second venture after a six-year break.
“We discussed several scripts in between, but Ace had the spark. It’s a story of transformation—of a man with a dark past who tries to start anew but is pulled back by love and destiny,” Vijay explained.
The film also stars Kannada actress Rukmini Vasanth, who makes her Tamil debut, and popular comedian Yogi Babu, promising both emotional depth and light-hearted moments.
Romance Through the Lens of Realism
Vijay’s character Bold Kannan is shaped by emotional evolution. “From friendship to love, the journey between Kannan and Rukku (Rukmini) is emotionally layered,” he said. “Love is universal, but every relationship defines love in its own way.”
On Craft, Physicality & Acting Philosophy
When asked about the physical demands of acting, Vijay said, “I believe physicality is as important as dialogue. I try to understand each character’s psychology and have deep discussions with directors to capture their vision.”
Forever Grateful to the Fans
Despite his rising fame, Vijay’s humility remains untouched. “Wherever I go, I feel the love. That’s what keeps me going. Stardom isn’t just about being popular—it’s about staying connected to people,” he smiled.
