The shocking honeymoon murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has taken an even darker turn. In a new revelation, his brother has alleged that the accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, took inspiration from the 2002 Bollywood thriller Humraaz to plan the murder of her husband.
Honeymoon Murder That Shook the Nation
The case grabbed headlines after Sonam, barely ten days into her marriage, allegedly conspired with her boyfriend to murder her husband Raja during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Initially reported as a missing case, the shocking truth soon unraveled — Raja was killed in a meticulously planned attack involving hired killers.
Now, an even more chilling detail has emerged: Sonam may have followed the exact plotline of Humraaz, a film that portrays love, betrayal, and a murder conspiracy.
Brother’s Shocking Allegation: A Bollywood-Inspired Crime?
Raja’s brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, made a startling statement during a media briefing. He claimed that before the trip to Shillong, Raja’s weight was recorded and found to be nearly 6 kg less than Sonam’s — possibly part of the plan to make him physically vulnerable. Sachin further stated that Sonam tried to throw Raja into a 1000-feet-deep gorge, but he got stuck around 200 feet, which eventually led to the discovery of his body.
In an emotional video shared online, Sachin also apologized to the Meghalaya government for the negative attention caused due to Sonam’s actions and praised the Meghalaya Police for solving the case in just 17 days.
Understanding the Humraaz Plot: Art Imitating Life?
Directed by Abbas-Mustan, Humraaz (2002) features a deadly love triangle between characters played by Akshaye Khanna, Amisha Patel, and Bobby Deol. In the film, a couple conspires to murder a wealthy businessman for money, only for the female lead to fall in love with the man she was supposed to kill.
The similarities between the movie plot and the real-life murder of Raja Raghuvanshi have left the public stunned, raising questions about the influence of cinema on criminal behavior.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Reaction
The gruesome nature of the murder and the Bollywood connection have gripped social media. As more details surface, the case continues to dominate news cycles and public discourse.
