Bangladeshi Actress Arrested at Dhaka Airport: Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusrat Faria was arrested on Sunday at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was about to board a flight to Thailand. The arrest was made in connection with a 2024 attempted murder case during anti-government protests in Bangladesh.

According to airport officials, the 31-year-old actress was detained before boarding and was not allowed to leave the country due to a pending arrest warrant. She was later taken to Dhaka’s Vatara Police Station and subsequently moved to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Fame Through the Role of Sheikh Hasina

Nusrat Faria rose to national and international fame for portraying former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the 2023 biographical film “Mujib: The Making of a Nation”. The film, a joint Indo-Bangladesh project, was directed by the late legendary filmmaker Shyam Benegal and focused on the life of Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Faria began her film career in 2015 with Ashiqui, co-starring Bengali actor Ankush Hazra. Since then, she has acted in several successful films including Hero 420, Badsha – The Don, and Premi O Premi. Before entering the film industry, she worked as a radio jockey and featured in multiple commercials.

The Murder Attempt Case: What We Know

Faria is reportedly one of 17 individuals named in a case related to the attempted murder of a student during the 2024 anti-government protests in the Vatara area of Dhaka. These protests, largely driven by youth and student groups demanding justice and equity, led to significant political unrest and ultimately the resignation of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The actress had remained active on social media throughout this period, regularly posting updates and images that kept her in the public eye. However, her arrest now brings a serious twist to her public image.

Faria’s legal team has not yet released an official statement regarding her arrest.
