Jitendra Kumar, who became a household name as Abhishek Tripathi aka Sachiv Ji in Amazon Prime Video’s smash hit ‘Panchayat’, was not initially interested in doing the series. The actor recently revealed that he was unsure about the story and almost rejected the project when it was first offered to him.

In a candid interview, Jitendra shared that when he first read the script of ‘Panchayat’, it didn’t excite him much. The simplicity of the storyline and rural backdrop made him doubt whether the series would leave any impact on the audience. “I felt the story was too plain and lacked drama,” he said.

Despite his hesitation, it was the makers’ belief in the script and their vision that eventually convinced him to give it a shot. The show’s director, Deepak Kumar Mishra, and the writing team managed to change Jitendra’s mind after multiple discussions. “They were very confident. I trusted their experience and clarity,” Jitendra admitted.

Today, ‘Panchayat’ is one of India’s most loved web series, praised for its simplicity, humor, and heartfelt storytelling. Jitendra’s performance as the city-bred engineering graduate adjusting to life in a rural village won hearts across the country. The series even scored several awards and is now eagerly awaiting the release of Season 4.

Jitendra’s story is a reminder that sometimes, even the most loved roles begin with doubt. If he had followed his initial instinct, we might never have witnessed the iconic Sachiv Ji we adore today.

The fourth season of Panchayat can be streamed on Amazon Prime from July 2, 2025.
