In a long-awaited announcement, HBO has officially revealed the young actors who will bring the iconic trio of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley back to life in its upcoming TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s magical world.
After an open casting call that saw over 30,000 hopefuls audition, Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout have been cast in the lead roles made famous by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint. These promising young talents are set to star in the decade-spanning HBO Max series that promises a “faithful adaptation” of the original books.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer/director Mark Mylod praised the trio’s performances, stating:
“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”
A Star-Studded Supporting Cast
Joining the young trio are several high-profile names. Emmy-winner John Lithgow will portray Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu taking on the complex role of Severus Snape.
Other confirmed cast members include:
- Nick Frost as Hagrid,
- Luke Thallon as Professor Quirrell,
- Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
More casting announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
Rising Stars on the Rise
Dominic McLaughlin, a young Scottish actor, is set to appear in Sky’s comedy Grow and the BBC’s upcoming series Gifted. Arabella Stanton already made waves playing Matilda in Matilda: The Musical on London’s West End, while Alastair Stout has impressed with his early theatre and screen roles.
What’s Next?
Filming is set to begin this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK — the same location where the original films were shot. The first season of the HBO series is expected to air in 2026.
With JK Rowling onboard as an executive producer and the show promising to delve deeper into the original storylines, fans can look forward to a richly detailed magical world, far beyond what the original movies could offer.
