The internet has been abuzz with Girija Oak Godbole’s sudden rise to fame as the “blue saree girl.” But along with the adoration, there’s a darker side: her co-star Gulshan Devaiah has exposed a fake X (formerly Twitter) account impersonating her and “cashing in” on her newfound crush status.
Devaiah didn’t mince words. He reshared a post from the imposter profile using Girija’s pictures and wrote:
“Imposter cashing in on #GirijaOak’s crush phase. If you want to gush and crush, here she is @GirijaOak.”
He clearly tagged her official account to steer her fans away from the fraudulent profile.
The Upside of Viral Fame — and Its Dark Shadows
Girija Oak has been overwhelmed with love, but she hasn’t hesitated to call out the negative fallout:
- She expressed thanks for the affection but voiced her discomfort with morphed AI-generated memes of her.
- In a heartfelt message, Oak admitted that some of these images are sexualised “beyond comfort.”
- She also worried about the impact on her 12-year-old son, saying: “Obscene images of his mother … he’s going to see them one day … they’re morphed with the help of AI.”
- Calling for accountability, she urged people not to share or enjoy such manipulated content, even if they know it’s fake.
On Set with Gulshan: Respect, Care, and Vulnerability
Amidst the online drama, Oak also praised Devaiah for his empathy and professionalism during intimate scenes for their upcoming web series Therapy Sherapy.
Here’s how he made her feel safe:
- He brought three to four different pillows from his vanity van — soft, stiff, big, small — and let her choose what felt most comfortable.
- During shooting, he asked repeatedly, “Are you okay?” — 16 or 17 times, by her count.
- When something felt off, he said gently: “If you want to take it out, I’m totally fine with it.”
- Girija said that because of his sensitivity, she felt completely at ease — something rare for such emotionally intimate scenes.
- She called him one of the few actors with whom she didn’t feel “even a milligram of discomfort.”
According to her, the sequence they filmed showed a married couple whose intimacy had become routine, not passionate — “more about the emotional disconnect than the act itself.”
Why This Matters
This incident highlights a few critical issues:
- Digital impersonation: Fame can make public figures vulnerable to fake accounts misusing their identity for engagement.
- Ethics of AI: The misuse of AI to morph or sexualise images raises serious privacy and moral concerns.
- On-set professionalism: Devaiah’s behavior is a reminder of how actors can help create safe, respectful spaces even in intimate scenes.
- Celebrity responsibility: By speaking out, both Girija and Gulshan are using their platforms to alert the public about broader issues, not just personal ones.
