To honor the legacy of R.K. Laxman, one of India’s most iconic cartoonists and the creator of The Common Man, his family has introduced the R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence. The award celebrates individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the world of art, media, and creativity.
The inaugural award ceremony will take place on November 23, 2025, at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Pune, where Aamir Khan will be felicitated in a grand event. Adding to the excitement, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman will perform live, making the evening a blend of music, memories, and heartfelt tribute.
“A Fitting Tribute to Laxman Ji,” Says Family
Usha Laxman, daughter-in-law of the late cartoonist, confirmed the announcement, saying:
“The R.K. Laxman family has organized a live concert by A.R. Rahman on November 23 at the MCA Cricket Stadium. During this event, we will pay tribute to R.K. Laxman and launch the very first R.K. Laxman Award for Excellence.”
She further added,
“Aamir Khan is the perfect choice for this award. His creativity and impactful storytelling embody the same brilliance that R.K. Laxman brought to his art. This will be our family’s greatest tribute to him.”

Laxman’s artistic journey also included sketching for the beloved TV series Malgudi Days, written by his brother R.K. Narayan. Over his lifetime, he received several honors, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and an honorary doctorate from Mysore University.
