The honorary BEM is a royal accolade recognizing exceptional service to local communities—a distinction Arunima richly deserves.

Arunima’s journey began at the tender age of seven, when she started rigorous training under esteemed gurus such as Padmashri Jayarama Rao and Vanshree Rao. Currently based in the UK, she has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2008) from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, presented by the President of India. Other accolades include the Delhi State Scholarship for Arts, Shringarmani title, and recognition as an ‘A Grade Artist’ on national television.

Shining Bright on the Global Stage

Arunima Kumar has not just made her mark in India; her international acclaim is equally remarkable. In 2015, she was selected for the One Dance UK Mentoring Programme. Recently, in April 2025, she received the FICCI FLO Award. Arunima has choreographed and performed at major global events, including Buckingham Palace and Wembley Stadium, where she performed for 70,000 people and worldwide media during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.

Beyond the UK, she has dazzled audiences at iconic venues such as the Sydney Opera House, Cupertino (USA), Guinness World Record events, Rio de Janeiro Festival of Arts (Brazil), Canberra Festival, Thailand Cultural Festival, Manila Festival, and the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Arunima’s Reaction to the Royal Honor

Speaking to PTI after receiving the BEM, Arunima expressed her gratitude, calling it an “incredible honor” to be recognized by the King. She thanked those who believed in her work and acknowledged that this recognition is not just personal—it is a celebration of Indian classical dance on the world stage. For Arunima, Kuchipudi has been a lifelong companion, a journey of devotion and artistry.

Currently, Arunima is preparing her next project, ‘Samarpanam – A Dance Offering’, in collaboration with British Council India, promising yet another spectacular chapter in her illustrious career.
