Highlights
  • Thamma earns ₹42 crore in two days, close to the ₹50 crore mark.
  • Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat struggles at ₹16.50 crore after Day 2.
  • Post-Diwali release timing impacts both films’ box office growth.

The Diwali box office witnessed an electrifying clash as Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat hit theatres together. Both films opened to positive reviews and enthusiastic crowds, promising an exciting start to the festive season. However, as Day 2 collections roll in, the numbers reveal a twist that has fans and trade analysts watching closely.

Thamma’s Box Office Journey: A Strong Start with a Sudden Dip

Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, opened with a bang, marking the actor’s biggest-ever opening. Critics compared its opening buzz to Stree 2, speculating that Thamma might even surpass it in collections.

According to Sacnilk, the film collected ₹24 crore on its opening day, while the official figures slightly improved that number to ₹25.11 crore. However, Day 2 saw a noticeable dip, with collections sliding to ₹18 crore. Despite the decline, the film’s total now stands at a commendable ₹42 crore — inching closer to the ₹50 crore mark.

If this momentum continues over the weekend, Thamma could soon join the half-century club and solidify its position as one of the year’s biggest Diwali hits.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat Fails to Catch Fire

While Thamma impressed audiences, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, struggled to maintain its initial buzz.

The romantic drama managed ₹9 crore on Day 1, but its earnings slipped to ₹7.50 crore on Day 2, bringing its total to ₹16.50 crore. Despite a decent fan following and positive word of mouth, the film couldn’t cross even the ₹20 crore mark in its first two days — a clear indication that its Diwali charm is fading fast.

Missed Opportunity: A Wrong Release Timing?

Both films were released post-Diwali on Tuesday, 21 October 2025. Trade analysts believe that had the makers opted for a pre-Diwali Friday release (18 October), they could have leveraged the extended festive weekend. The timing mismatch seems to have slowed their earnings despite strong word of mouth and festive buzz.

As the weekend approaches, all eyes are now on whether Thamma can maintain its lead and touch ₹50 crore — or if Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat will stage a surprise comeback.
