The year 2025 has seen many blockbuster hits, but none have come close to the storm created by Kantara Chapter 1. Starring Rishab Shetty, the film has officially become the highest-grossing movie of 2025, surpassing Vicky Kaushal’s Chhava with an astonishing ₹809 crore worldwide collection.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the studio Hombale Films confirmed that the period action-drama earned ₹717 crore in its first two weeks globally. During its third week, the movie collected ₹38 crore in India over the weekend and ₹92 crore worldwide in six days. An English-language version of the film is set to release later this month, which may push its earnings even higher.

Chhava and Other Top Earners of 2025

Before Kantara Chapter 1’s dominance, Vicky Kaushal’s Chhava held the record for the year’s top grosser. However, Rishab Shetty’s cinematic powerhouse has now taken the crown. Other big earners this year include Mohan Suri’s Sairaara with ₹576 crore, Rajinikanth’s Coolie with over ₹500 crore, and Yash Raj Films’ War 2 with ₹365 crore.

More Films That Made Box Office History

Several other films crossed the ₹300 crore mark, including Mahavatar Narasimha, OG, and Loka Chapter 1. Among Hindi films, only Aamir Khan’s Sitare Zameen Par managed to secure a spot in the top 10, narrowly behind Mohanlal’s Left 2: Impuran.

Interestingly, the Kantara franchise seems unstoppable. Its first installment, which started as a sleeper hit, gained massive popularity due to its powerful storytelling and rich cultural depth. Now, Kantara Chapter 1 has repeated that magic, proving once again that Rishab Shetty’s vision connects deeply with audiences across languages.
