With just two days left for the release of Maddock Films’ much-awaited horror-comedy ‘Thamma’, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly made several changes before granting it a UA certificate. While the film’s advance booking numbers show massive audience excitement, these censor cuts might slightly tone down some intense or bold scenes.
The CBFC suggested audio cuts in three places and requested one scene modification, in addition to minor language edits throughout the film.
Kissing Scene Trimmed by 5 Seconds
One of the major changes includes a reduction in the length of a kissing scene by 30% (around 5 seconds). The censor board has also instructed the makers to tone down the sound effects in a blood-drinking scene.
Additionally, the word “Alexander” has been replaced with “Sikandar”, while the mention of “Ashwatthama” has been muted entirely. In the second half, a dialogue originally saying “Azaadi doonga” has been altered to “Ayyashi karta hoon.”
Not the First Time CBFC Has Intervened
This is not the first instance where the censor board has made bold cuts. Earlier, in ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’, the kissing scene was reduced by 60%, and in ‘Saiyara’, an entire bold sequence was completely deleted.
Given Maddock’s horror-comedy universe enjoys a large family and children fanbase, the makers themselves usually avoid extreme visuals. However, it remains to be seen how these censor changes impact the overall experience of ‘Thamma’.
