Bollywood’s ace filmmaker Karan Johar has finally spoken up about the status of his long-awaited period drama ‘Takht’, which has been in limbo since its announcement in 2020. During a recent media interaction, Johar confirmed that the project is very much alive and not shelved, contrary to speculations.
“One day, I will definitely make ‘Takht’. It is my dream project and the most ambitious film of my career. We will start work on it soon,” said Johar, reigniting excitement among fans and industry insiders.

‘Takht’ is expected to be a grand historical drama set in the Mughal era. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, and Anil Kapoor.
The storyline is reportedly based on the intense battle for succession between Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh, offering a mix of politics, betrayal, power, and emotions.

The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent financial constraints in the industry led to indefinite delays in the production of ‘Takht’. However, Karan Johar assured that the vision remains intact and the groundwork will soon begin.
“It’s a huge film that requires massive planning, budget, and coordination. But I haven’t given up on it,” he stated.
