Actor Bhumi Pednekar has found herself at the center of online trolling after her new web series The Royals premiered on Netflix. While the show itself received mixed reviews, a significant portion of social media users turned their attention to Bhumi’s appearance — especially her lips, which many speculated had undergone cosmetic enhancement.

Old Interview Clip Goes Viral Amid Lip Controversy

As criticism mounted, a 2017 interview of Bhumi Pednekar resurfaced on Reddit and quickly went viral. In the clip, Bhumi is seen discussing similar remarks made about her lips during a candid chat with Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana, hosted by Anupama Chopra.

She recalls being told:

“Your lips are too big.”

To which Bhumi confidently replied:

“Since when is that a problem? People pay lakhs to get that done. You should just be aware of who you are and not care.”

This throwback moment has once again highlighted her unshakable self-confidence and refusal to bow down to body shaming.

The Royals Receives Lukewarm Response from Viewers

The Royals, released on May 9, stars Bhumi alongside Ishaan Khatter and is created by Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy. Unfortunately, the show has not made a strong impression. Many viewers criticized the lack of chemistry between the lead actors and described the screenplay as “superficial and poorly written.”

Trolls Target Bhumi’s Lips Post Release

What began as performance critiques soon turned into personal attacks. Social media was flooded with harsh comments like:

“Her lips are doing more acting than her in The Royals.”
“Her lips have more personality than her character.”

Such comments reflect the persistent issue of appearance-based trolling in the entertainment industry, especially targeting female actors.

Bhumi’s Graceful Comeback Wins Support

Despite the trolling, Bhumi’s old interview has won her widespread appreciation for her candidness and refusal to conform to beauty standards. Her confident response is now being hailed as a powerful message on self-acceptance and body positivity.
