In a recent interview, actress Aahana Kumra made several revelations about her struggles in Bollywood, including her three-year-long wait for a substantial role. Despite her previous work on TV, OTT platforms, and in films, Kumra disclosed that she hasn’t been offered any significant roles lately, emphasizing that Bollywood primarily caters to A-grade actors.
3 Years Without Work
Aahana Kumra, who gained recognition after transitioning from TV and OTT to films, has now found herself out of work for the past three years. In an emotional interview, the actress admitted to being disheartened by the lack of opportunities. “I’ve been waiting for good roles for three years, but nothing has come my way,” she shared. As a result, Kumra has decided to focus on filmmaking. She further explained, “In Bollywood, only A-grade actors get consistent work.”
Only A-Grade Actors Get Regular Opportunities
Kumra, who was last seen in Madhur Bhandarkar’s 2022 film Lockdown, spoke candidly with Hindustan Times about the stark realities of Bollywood. “I’ve been waiting for work for the last three years, but no one has offered me anything. It seems that in this industry, either big stars get all the attention or actors willing to work for minimal pay are cast,” she remarked.
Despite having built a solid reputation on OTT platforms, Kumra’s work has dried up. “I used to get a lot of work on OTT platforms, but now, it’s been a long time since I’ve had any offers. It’s tough, but that’s how this industry works.”
The “Good Actor” Tag Didn’t Help
Aahana Kumra started her acting career in 2009 with the TV serial Bollywood Hero and has since worked in over 39 TV shows, OTT series, and films. Despite her extensive experience, Kumra reveals that even being tagged as a “good actor” doesn’t guarantee consistent roles. “I worked hard to earn the ‘good actor’ tag, and people recognized my talent. But what’s the use of such a tag if it doesn’t help you get work?”
The actress added, “There’s no guarantee that just because people think you’re talented, you’ll keep getting roles.”
Kumra’s candid comments highlight the struggles faced by many actors in Bollywood who, despite their talent and dedication, find it difficult to secure steady work.
